IPL photorejuvenation

Look for appointment times

IPL photorejuvenation is an effective light therapy procedure for skin rejuvenation, improving skin quality, removing sun damage and evening out skin tone. Photorejuvenation uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to stimulate the production of elastin and collagen in the skin, reducing wrinkles and evening out complexion. The procedure works at the cellular level – reducing inflammatory processes as well as reducing redness and pigment spots on the cheeks, tightening pores and improving acne-damaged skin.

The results are usually visible after the first treatment; however, we often recommend the Photorejuvenation as a course of two to three treatments, with at least one month between the treatments. After that, top up treatments can be performed once or twice a year.

IPL Photorejuvenation is a safe and painless procedure and does not damage the skin surface. Recovery is fast and generally without major side effects. For the most part, this treatment is suitable for all skin types, but as with any other medical treatment, there are contraindications. We recommend that you consult a specialist before the procedure to assess the suitability of the treatment, the possible results and to avoid risks and side effects. During the consultation, a specialist will make a thorough facial analysis, explain everything related to the treatment and give instructions for proper aftercare at home.

How does the photorejuvenation procedure work?

The photorejuvenation procedure is performed using the modern device Lumenis M22 (in Tallinn) and Deka Luxea PLUS (in Tartu). During the procedure, a special handle is placed on the surface of the skin that emits different types of light impulses. You may feel flashes of heat on your skin during the procedure. The light energy is absorbed by the skin and acts directly on the tissues, helping to restore skin health and youthfulness.

What are the contraindications?

  • Oncological diseases, epilepsy, melasma, keloid scars, active inflammations and herpes
  • Tanned skin – avoid sunbathing for at least three to four weeks before the treatment, including going to the solarium and using self-tan products
  • The treatment is not carried out during an antibiotic course, and three to four weeks must have passed since the last time you took the medication
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Tattoos in the treatment area
  • The treatment is not performed on persons under the age of 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian

Almost all of the above contraindications are relative and the final decision on the treatment will be made by the specialist during the personal examination and consultation before the treatment.

What should be taken into consideration before and after the treatment?

  • Avoid tanning for at least two to four weeks before the treatment, including visiting the solarium (risk of pigmentation).
  • Avoid the use of self-tanning products two to four weeks before and after the treatment.
  • Stop using products containing retinol or similar active ingredients three days before the treatment. Once the skin has recovered from the treatment, you can resume using them.
  • At least six months should have passed since taking medicines containing isotretinoin.
  • Inform the specialist about the medicines you are taking before coming for the treatment.
  • Alcohol should not be consumed for at least one day after the treatment.
  • Avoid intensive workouts for two to seven days after the treatment, depending on skin sensitivity.
  • Avoid saunas and hot baths for at least two weeks after the treatment.
  • Avoid tanning for at least three to four weeks after the treatment, use SPF 50 sun cream for at least two weeks; to extend the result, SPF sunscreen is recommended all year round.
  • Leave a gap of at least two weeks before other facial treatments.
  • Make-up can usually be applied immediately after the treatment.
  • Mild redness, flushing and swelling may occur for about one to three days after the treatment. In rare cases, bruising, crusting or changes in skin texture may occur. This reaction is usually temporary. A cold compress can be applied to reduce the feeling of flushing and to soothe and restore the skin; use a skin repair cream (e.g. Bepanthen, Panthenol, Mesoestetic Post Procedure Fast Skin Repair cream, Mesoestetic Melan Recovery cream) until the skin has recovered.
  • After the treatment, the pigmentation may temporarily darken (a process of pigment shedding) and pigment crusts may form on the skin, which will naturally disappear in 7-10 days. Do not remove them yourself – there is a risk of damaging the skin!
