Removal of skin and subcutaneous tissue
Look for appointment timesSkin and subcutaneous tumour removal is a surgical procedure to remove growth(s) that have formed on or under the skin for various reasons.
Skin tumours can be benign (e.g. lipoma – a fatty tumour) or malignant (e.g. melanoma – a type of skin cancer). If a tumour is suspected to be malignant or potentially harmful, it is recommended to remove it and send it for histological examination to determine its nature.
Surgery
Under general or local anaesthesia, the surgeon makes an incision close to the tumour and removes it along with a small margin of surrounding tissue to ensure its complete excision and prevent recurrence.
This is a common procedure, performed both to treat tumours and for cosmetic reasons.
