Groin hernia surgery
Look for appointment timesA hernia is the protrusion of an abdominal organ or a part of it through the subcutaneous tissues of the abdominal wall. Hernias can occur in several locations – the most common ones are inguinal hernia, umbilical hernia, incisional hernia, and femoral hernia. Inguinal hernia is a medical condition in which a part of the abdominal organs changes its anatomical position and protrudes through an opening in the inguinal canal, outside of the abdominal cavity. Inguinal hernia is the most common type of hernia. Inguinal hernia can be congenital or acquired. Regardless of the origin of the inguinal hernia, it must be removed, as other methods (hernia belts, special exercises, etc.) do not cure the hernia, but only temporarily slow down its development. The characteristic signs of a hernia are swelling, and there may be pain and discomfort in the groin area.
How does it work?
During the surgery, the surgeon removes the hernia sac through incisions in the skin. Then, the surgeon inserts a mesh prosthesis through the skin opening to minimize the risk of hernia recurrence. The removal of an inguinal hernia is performed under local or general anesthesia. At Confido Clinic, the removal of an inguinal hernia is performed using both the open and less invasive laparoscopic methods. The doctor at Confido Clinic selects the most suitable method for you based on your gender, age, the size of the hernia, and other factors.
After the procedure
After the surgery, it may be necessary to stay under hospital observation for the next 24 hours. You can already take light walks the day after the surgery. Avoid lifting heavy weights (over 15 kg) for the first 14 days. Pain may be present at the incision site during the first 14 days. The diagnosis and treatment of an inguinal hernia are determined by your treating physician. Begin your treatment journey with a consultation with a surgeon!
