X-ray for a child
An X-ray examination is a widely used primary examination method in which an image is obtained using X-ray radiation. Since this involves ionising radiation, a referral is required for the examination. A referral for the examination is provided by a family doctor or treating physician.
Children are more sensitive to the effects of ionising radiation, therefore a lower intensity mode is chosen on the X-ray machine for children. Children’s examinations and other persons in need of assistance must be accompanied by one or two companions. The child must be cooperative and follow the instructions given to them. The person accompanying the patient must be at least 18 years old and must not be pregnant.
The X-ray image and its description are stored in the National Image Bank. In addition, the result of the examination is also recorded in the Patient Portal (Digilugu). If necessary, we can provide the performed examinations on a USB data carrier, at a cost of 25 euros (includes the cost of the data carrier).
X-ray examinations are performed on a first-come, first-served basis. If desired, you can book an appointment for the examination in advance. Priority is given to urgent patients and, whenever possible, to children.
Conducting the examination
The X-ray examination does not require separate preparation, but clothes, jewellery, glasses, etc. must be removed from the area being examined. Wear clothes that are easy to remove.
The X-ray examination is performed by a radiology technician, the examination is quick and generally does not cause discomfort. You must remain still for a moment during the examination.
Important information
- The X-ray examination involves a small dose of ionising radiation. If you suspect pregnancy, inform your attending/family doctor before obtaining a referral.
- We also perform long-axis imaging of both the spine (scoliosis assessment etc.) and the lower limbs.
- We do not perform fluoroscopies (X-ray imaging in real-time) in our centre.
