Appointment with an occupational therapist

The goal of occupational therapy is to improve functional abilities, helping individuals achieve maximum independence that matches their needs and capabilities. Occupational therapy includes supporting and developing activities related to work, leisure and self-care. These goals are achieved through everyday activities such as cooking, eating, make-up, grooming and more.

Occupational therapy is recommended for individuals with neurological, psychiatric or orthopaedic conditions, as well as cognitive impairments or physical injuries, who need assistance in restoring the skills and functions necessary for daily life.

During the initial appointment with an occupational therapist, the problem is assessed, goals are set and a therapy plan is created. In follow-up appointments, the effectiveness of the therapy is evaluated and necessary adjustments are made to the therapy plan.

The evaluation is carried out through observation, interviews and various tests and measurements. The purpose of evaluating functional abilities is to understand the individual’s strengths and identify factors that limit, support or enhance their abilities. Based on the assessment, a therapy plan is developed, focusing primarily on three aspects: skill and ability development, activity adaptation and environmental adaptation. All of these factors affect a person’s ability to participate in daily activities.

  • Skill and ability development: physical, cognitive and emotional skills needed for daily activities are developed.
  • Activity adaptation: the therapist may recommend and teach alternative methods or adjustments so that the individual can perform necessary activities despite their limitations.
  • Environmental adaptation: the therapist helps to create or adapt the environment (e.g. home or workplace) to support the person’s ability to be independent and efficient in their daily tasks.

Before coming to the appointment, it is recommended to think about personal goals and expectations for occupational therapy. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing that allows for free movement during the appointment.

PLEASE NOTE! The occupational therapist accepts patients from the age of 14.
