What to consider before your appointment?

The most important thing is to be able to describe the main problem. Before the appointment, sit down with your child and think about when the problems began, what affects them and what has helped. If there is pain, think about whether it is always of the same nature, which area hurts and how long the pain lasts. In case of a developmental or learning disability, bring a personality assessment from the child’s kindergarten, school or therapists, if possible.

Before the appointment, explain to your child that you are coming in to just talk, and depending in the problem, they will also be examined. Avoid scaring the child: for example, avoid saying things like “don’t worry, they won’t give you a shot”, because all the child will hear is the word “shot” and think the worst. Consider whether a small reward after the appointment would help your child cooperate. Don’t worry – if we can’t do everything in one visit, we can meet again.
