Optometrist consultation
Look for appointment timesIf you have any questions or concerns about your vision, we recommend that you start with an optometrist’s consultation. An optometrist performs vision tests and prescribes glasses. A doctor’s referral is not required for an optometrist’s appointment and it is possible to register for an appointment from the age of 12.
The appointment includes the following:
-
- visual acuity test
-
- prescribing glasses, issuing a prescription
-
- tests: colour perception test, stereoscopic vision test
-
- intraocular pressure measurement
-
- counselling about vision
The diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases is left to an ophthalmologist. We recommend that you consult an ophthalmologist if you experience sudden deterioration in vision, pain or redness in the eyes, symptoms of chronic eye disease, inflammation. Development and progression of many serious eye diseases as well as eye damage caused by several systemic diseases (diabetes, thyroid and joint problems) is painless and asymptomatic. An ophthalmologist can only help with timely intervention.
