Vaginal laser therapy

Look for appointment times

MonaLisa Touch® vaginal laser therapy activates blood circulation in the cells of the superficial layer of the vaginal mucosa and stimulates collagen production, restoring moisture levels, elasticity and normal pH in the vaginal lining. The procedure reduces dryness, itching and burning sensations, which are often caused by mucosal atrophy, or thinning. Thinning of the vaginal mucosa and loss of elasticity are normal physiological changes associated with ageing. Over time, such changes may lead to discomfort in daily life and pain during vaginal intercourse.

The loss of collagen fibre elasticity, both due to ageing and after giving birth, leads to the loosening of the vaginal mucosa and the supporting tissue around the urethra, which can cause stress-related urinary leakage. Vaginal laser therapy also alleviates mild stress urinary incontinence.

Rejuvenation of the vaginal mucosa is performed with the DEKA MonaLisa Touch® laser. During the procedure, a special probe is inserted into the vagina, through which laser beams affect the vaginal mucosa at a depth of 4–6 mm. The procedure is well-tolerated and painless and does not require anaesthesia.

Vaginal laser therapy cannot be performed:

  • during pregnancy
  • within the first three months after giving birth
  • in cases of untreated acute genital infection
  • in cases of pre-cancerous conditions of the cervix or during treatment thereof

The laser procedure is not restricted by an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD), breastfeeding, menopause or other chronic illnesses and treatments. Specific indications and contraindications will be explained by the gynaecologist during the pre-procedure consultation.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Before starting the MonaLisa Touch® laser treatment, it is necessary to see the doctor who will carry out the procedure. You will be advised on the procedure, and a gynaecological examination, ultrasound scan and any necessary analyses will be performed.

It is not recommended to have the procedure during menstruation.

What should you take into consideration after the procedure?

  • Avoid having sex for three days
  • Avoid intense physical exercise for three days
  • Avoid baths, pools and saunas for three days
  • Increased watery vaginal discharge may occur for five to seven days after the procedure, which does not require further treatment
  • In rare cases, acute fatigue, weakness or fever may occur.

If you have any complaints after laser therapy, please contact the doctor who performed the procedure through customer support.

It is recommended to undergo a treatment course of 3 procedures at 1-month intervals. In the future, we recommend repeating the procedure, depending on the complaints after 1 year.

Laser treatment should be started at the reception of Paula Pärna, the gynaecologist performing the procedure.
