Since graduating from university in 2006, psychologist Lauri Pihkva has mostly focused on adults with a range of addictive disorders. He has helped develop and implement treatment programmes for alcohol, tobacco and drug addiction and treated people with addictive disorders for 16 years in both individual and group settings.
Lauri doesn’t believe in fear mongering, giving commands or prohibiting, but in the individual’s own ability to move forward in their own life. Therefore, his focus is on developing and nurturing this ability.
Lauri is also interested in issues related to managing negative emotions and coping with stress and burnout. He has held anger and stress management courses for officers of the defence forces and for prison inmates and staff.
Lauri is a certified Mindfulness coach. He has completed basic training in sexual counseling, initial training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and is pacticipating in foundational training in family therapy.
