Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical examination that can be used to diagnose a number of diseases. The examination is painless. MRI uses a strong magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to obtain an image of human organs and tissues. Detailed MRI images can often be used to diagnose diseases that cannot be assessed by other radiological methods.

The MRI machine is like a tunnel surrounded by a magnet. The patient lies on the examination table, which then moves into the tunnel. It is important to lie still in the tunnel during the scan, otherwise the scan will fail.

If a contrast agent is to be used, the radiology technician will insert a venous cannula. Sometimes you will be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds during the scan. The staff will monitor you through the window throughout the scan and you will always be able to communicate with the staff through the audio system.

When the examination is completed, the radiology technician enters the examination room and moves the examination table out of the tunnel. The venous cannula is taken out. An MRI scan can last from a quarter of an hour to an hour.

An appointment must be made in advance for the examination. Test results will be assessed by a radiologist and a response will be sent to the referring physician. Upon request, we can provide you with an USB carrier containing the test images and appropriate software (for an additional fee of €25).

NB! We do not perform examination of the next regions: penis, prostate, mammary glands, rectum, fingers, heart. Also defecography is not performed. Examinations are not performed on patients with cardiac pacemaker. We accept children only from 15 years old. We carry out examinations of children under 15 years of age only by agreement with the radiologist and on the condition that the child can remain motionless during the examination.

• Contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging PLEASE NOTE! Contraindications include new dental implants (6-8 weeks), recently placed intrauterine devices (6-8 weeks) and fresh tattoos and permanent makeup (6-8 weeks).
